Taxonomy

Family: Juncaceae

Habitat

Moist woods. Also along trails, roadsides, and other open areas

Associates

 

Distribution

Eastern half of the U.S. and Canada.

Morphology

Herbaceous perennial from short stolons and rhizomes. Leaves hairy along the margins with a blunt callous tip; basal leaves elongate; cauline leaves 2 to 4, shorter than basal. Inflorescence simple, branches mostly 1 flowered. 

Notes

Flowers late March to early June.

Wetland indicator: Facultative -

 Endangered in IL, IN, and NJ.
