Morphology
Rhizomatous perennial herb to 40 cm. Basal leaves with long petioles, ovate, cordate at the base, 3-5 shallow lobes, crenate, hairy; cauline leaves 2, opposite, sessile or nearly so, mostly 3-lobed. Inflorescence a terminal raceme to 15 cm long; flowers perfect, regular, perigynous; petals 5, white, deeply fimbriate-pinnatifid; stamens 10; carpels 2.

Has only a single opposite pair of stem leaves. May hybridize with M. nuda.
