Newfoundland and Quebec to Yukon, south to FL and CA.
Morphology
Parasitic on many species of plants; stems all or mostly underground, 1-3(-5) cm, with a few overlapping, oblong-ovate, glabrous, blunt or apiculate scales; pedicels 1-3, 6-20 cm, erect, finely glandular hairy, without bractlets, each with a single white or violet flower to 2 cm; calyx lobes 5, about equal, triangular-acuminate, slightly longer than the tube; corolla tubular, much longer than the lobes.
Notes
Flowers late spring to early summer.
Wetland indicator: UPL
Although perennial the stem is subterranean and flowers are not produced every year, so finding this plant is a chance event.
