Mountain woods.

 Distribution

Native from VA and KY to GA and AL. Naturalized throughout much of the U.S.

Morphology

Rhizomatous shrub to 2 m; densely to sparsely hispid with glandular hairs. Leaves pinnate compound; leaflets 7-13. Flowers pink-purple, 3-10 in drooping racemes. Fruits densely hispid.

Notes

Flowers June and July.

Wetland indicator: NA

Native to the Southeast but has been widely planted as an ornamental. There are several varieties. May hybridize with R. pseudoacacia.
