Taxonomy

Family: Rosaceae

Habitat

Swampy or wet woods, bogs.

Associates

 

 Distribution

Most of the northern half of the U.S. into Canada.

Morphology

Creeping perennial. Stems herbaceous, without bristles or prickles. Leaves trifoliate; terminal leaflets sharply toothed above the middle, acute, the laterals asymmetrical; stipules oblanceolate. Flowers 1-3, terminal; petals white or rarely pink. Fruit deep red, the drupelets separating reluctantly from the receptacle.

Fruits are good but usually not abundant.
